Plastics, vinyl and the Environment
October 20, 2009 Written By: Naked Binder Admin Naked Binder says over and over that we don't use plastics or vinyl. The reasons are many, but here is one. Plastic does not disappear. It degrades into smaller and smaller pieces which are then eaten by fish and birds. Unfortunately, there is no nutritional value in them and so they merely harm the birds/fish which get eaten by other animal/birds/fish. These pieces will kill the animal that ate them, and then go right back out and do it again. they do not disapear at a rate that makes any sense. Chris Jordan has been photographing the huge mess that is the Pacific Gyre - the immense patch of garbage floating in the Pacific ocean. He provides unstaged, untouched proof of the damage to birds in his photos. These are baby albatross who have eaten a whole lot of plastic pieces and died. These problems are not limited to Midway where he is photographing, but are everywhere. Every step you take to eliminate the use of disposable, plastic items helps. And when you do get rid of them - recycle. Keep them contained in the system. We all recognize the benefits of plastics, but it is time we recognize the harm it does also.
Comments: But doesn't your parent company, Corporate Image, make plastic/vinyl binders?
Posted By: Rick Smith - 10/22/2009 11:18 AM Hello Rick,
Actually, no. Corporate Image, which is actually a sister company to Naked Binder, uses no vinyl or plastics in their binders. They do print them (offset printing with soy inks) as they are a custom printer/manufacturer, but on paper. CI is a FSC certified printer. from their site :"Every Corporate Image 3-ring binder begins with a durable board made from 100% post-consumer waste. We are committed to introducing new eco-friendly materials that maintain a high level of quality while reducing waste and improving our production processes." For 25 years, CI has been pioneering greener ways of making binders. And, for the record, they have never made plastic or vinyl binders. Posted By: Ken - Naked Binder - 10/22/2009 11:29 AM |

"I am currently a doctorate student, and I LOVE your binders. I carry them to school and they have already lasted almost a year. I am constantly questioned about them, and actually made a class announcement when you had your earth day special."
